Holidays are the perfect time to relax, wind down, recharge your batteries and switch off from work. I often find that ‘getting away from it all’ gives me time to reflect on life, and more specifically my work-life balance.

This July I was very fortunate to have a fabulous holiday with my family travelling around Italy. It was the perfect mental, physical and emotion break from the routine (and pressure) of work – and running a business. Returning to work is usually a struggle for most people after a relaxing holiday, but to quote Steve Jobs:

“The only way to do great work is to love what you do”

I do love what I do! I am lucky in this respect. However, as much as I love my work, too much work can have a detrimental effect on our wellbeing, leading to mental, physical and emotional ill-health.

Returning from almost 3 weeks away, prompted me to question my own work-life balance and the reluctance to step back into a routine – in which work takes up a large part of each day. One of the advantages of being my own boss is having control and flexibility, so I have been taking the opportunity this August to be mindful of the way I work.

I am taking stock and reflecting on my goals and ambitions for Essential Vitality. My aim is to achieve these alongside personal goals with time for family and creativity, in order to maintain a healthy work-life balance…. Wish me luck!
